The Col-Lee tennis league was started in 1988 with the mission of offering tennis doubles opportunities to senior men and women of all skill levels. The league operates soft court tennis competition in two seasons each year, fall and winter. Any club or community within our area can enter three court teams in several divisions. These divisions are distinguished by
age and skill level. Playing times vary and are set by the "home" team according to their court assignment practices.
Our objective is to mix and play doubles team matches with other tennis clubs and communities from both Collier and Lee counties without being overly competitive. Our Motto is;
"TENNIS IS FUN" (even when you lose).
Each team can register 6 or more players on their roster for the season and pay a registration fee of $60.00. As more players become available they may be added later at no additional cost. However, new players must be registered at least 24 hours previous to playing in a scheduled match.
As a result of many requests, we will attempt to organize a new women’s division for the fall and winter seasons. The Division will be for 70+ 3.0 Women and will play on Thursdays. Please review the
ENTRY FORM and Rules for more information.
The 2011 fall season starts the week of November 1, 2011 and will run through December 17th. Winter season 2012 will begin on January 12 and last through March 25th. Last winter season we had enrolled over 700 players on 68 teams competing in 8 divisions. Thanks to all the captains and club pro's for their efforts in making 2011 such a great season (See the
Events tab for more dates).
Joining the Col-Lee management team this year will be Mike Shields who has been the brains behind our Website. Mike will add very much to our objective of developing and implementing an efficient communication system.
In the fall, all tennis divisions will play three court matches with the winner of each court taking 2 of 3 sets. All 3rd sets, when required, will be played as "supper ten point tie breakers.” In the Winter Season the 50+ men division will play a 4 court format and will have the option of playing a regular 3rd set if the home team has enough court time. Also, as in the past, the captains of the all other division teams may agree to play a "for fun" 4th court that will not count in the standings.
